IMPORTANT UPDATE
This is a tough update letter to write because in our last update we asked everyone to pray for the health of my brother. It has been about a month since he passed out and hit his head. When he woke up he was having a lot of trouble speaking, he couldn’t walk, or swallow. He has a gastric tube that was surgically placed and that is basically how he has been surviving and getting nutrients thus far. He was released from the hospital to go to rehab and in being there for about a month has only gained back some minimal functions. The rehab center needs to release him because he doesn’t have enough independent function to stay.
After talking to my pastor in Texas, some close friends of the family, and much prayer, Heather and I have decided that we need to take some time in the United States to help my mom and brother. Daniel is the only brother that I have, him being five years older than me and my mother is the best single mother she can be. Daniel has done more for me then I could ever know. Even though we know this is the right decision, it has been very challenging and sad for us to leave in the middle of our time in Peru. God is in control and knows why all things occur. We will continue to have confidence in the call that He has placed on our lives and the ministry opportunities in Peru.

AYACUCHO
This part of the update is also challenging to write because our last month in Peru has been really encouraging for us and our ministry. After six solid months of language study, our team leader in Ayacucho invited us to come and help with a medical team from Ohio. He even asked me to preach. We were both very nervous but on arrival, it was great to see how much we could communicate and interact naturally with the people of Ayacucho. Our team was short on translators and we got the opportunity to translate for the team. Heather used a language that she had only been studying for six months to really help people medically.
She translated, triaged and treated patients for three full days. I only did it for one day and by the end of that day, I was beat. Translating some of the odd cases and hearing the medical stories and background was not easy. We weren’t perfect, but it was so encouraging to see our level of Spanish and how much we had improved. Our team was doing great in Ayacucho. They are making great contacts and building their resources as they work towards planting a church. Continue to pray for the ministry in Ayacucho and that the Lord would continue to open doors and ministry opportunities.

PRAYER
To our prayer warriors: please pray for Daniel, pray for a miracle. That his body would see some recovery and he can gain independence back. Pray for my mother as she deals with all the ins and outs of this from Daniel’s personal care, to paperwork, and still having to work at her job. Pray for us that God continues to give us peace, that we have wisdom on what the next steps should be for Daniel’s care, and that we are able to support and encourage my mom. Also that we can be intentional with our time in the United States and have our eyes open to what the Lord desires for us to do while we are there.
We will do our best to keep everyone updated on the process and what is going on. Right now we are in the insurance process and as everyone knows that usually takes some time to get sorted out. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email or call us. We arrive in the US on Monday afternoon.
