Hello Friends and Family,
Wanted to give you a quick update on Daniel’s progress and our time here in Austin. Daniel has come a long way. One of our biggest prayers was answered. Daniel can now swallow well enough to eat regular food, drink sufficient liquids and take his medication crushed orally. This past Thursday the doctor took out his feeding tube. We are so pumped that we no longer have to worry about him pulling his feeding tube out anymore. Our second prayer was that he would get better at using the toilet. That he would be aware enough to be able to tell someone in a timely manner to get him to the bathroom. I’m happy to say he is using regular underwear and only having to use a brief at night. We still have the occasional accident but it has improved immensely. Our third prayer of walking is coming a little slower. He is getting stronger and stronger and is able to walk further and further with assistance but his balance and center of gravity are catching up slower than the strength in his legs. This is all good news. Daniel has reached a lot of the goals that his therapist have set for him. He still has a long road ahead but the doctors and therapists believe it is a good time for him to move into a more specialized program. There is a great Rehab center in Dallas that we are currently looking into. This facility would be even more intense with a 6-8 hour a day schedule. We believe this would be a great place for him because it would work on all aspects of rehab not just physical. Please be praying for this move to take place. He completed his 2-hour evaluation with a representative from the facility, they flew Olga (Jaime’s mom) out to the facility to check it out, and from their standpoint, Daniel is a great candidate. The ball is currently in the court of the insurance and his case is under review. But we know that God is in control and He has a plan.
We would like to add for continued prayers for the families in this facility. The more we have been here, the more we have gotten to know the families/caretakers, and the more we realize how broken everyone is. The families and the patients are lonely and NEED someone to talk to. Mainly, the families need to feel like someone cares about their well being along with the well being of their loved one. Until about two weeks ago we did not have much emotionally, physically, mentally or spiritually to offer these people. We completely understand how they feel. And it is HARD. Along with prayers for Daniel, we would ask that you continue to pray for the families at this facility. We have been able to have some great conversations in the past couple weeks and pray for many of them. Please, please, please pray for those individuals that are here and that the Lord would strengthen and fill them. We are planning on talking to the church we have been going to for the last couple of months to see if they can provide some kind of counseling or support for these families. Pray that their congregation would rise to the occasion and that wounds would be healed in this place and that people would continue to hear about the love of Jesus Christ.
We are still communicating and working closely with South America Mission and updating plans on being back in Peru as we get more information on Daniel’s progress. The Peru annual field conference is this week for South America Mission and TEAM. Pray for great conversations and encouragement for our organization and our team from Ayacucho during this time. Thank you for all of the support you all have given us while we walk through this, you are greatly appreciated!!
