We just got back from our first trip to Peru! We were able to visit Ayacucho (our primary location) and Lima. Jaime was able to go hiking on Raswilka (a nearby mountain that reaches about 1600ft). One of the missionaries in the picture is a member with SAM and the other has been a missionary in Ayacucho for the last 15 years. We were able to see the Quechua people during our hikes. These people are a very quiet, reserved, hard working people who can be very welcoming. Past events in Ayacucho have caused these people to have a hard time trusting others. Jaime and the guys were able to have lunch with a Quechua woman on their hike. We will write a little more on the history of Ayacucho and the Shining Path in later posts. We also toured around one of the Universities in Ayacucho. This school is one of the oldest universities in Peru. We are are excited to see the opportunities that the Lord presents for us when we move out to Ayacucho and were extremely encouraged by the areas that we could begin to get involved.
While we were in Lima, we spent time with Julio and Olga Chiang. The Chiangs are native to Lima, Peru and had previously been working in Pucallpa, Peru with South American Missions. Julio is involved in the Lima Initiative and a house plant. If you would like to learn more about the Lima Initiative click on the link . This is an incredible couple that has been blessed with a wealth of knowledge on church planting and Peruvian ministry. We are so excited to share more information with all of you as things unfold. The ultimate goals over the next year is to develop our knowledge of church planting and the Peruvian culture, increase our knowledge of the Spanish language, and SUPPORT RAISE! If you would like to know more about our ministry and/or South America Mission you can click on the link to the right or here.
