We want to first thank you so much for being apart of this journey that God has us on. Every day we feel incredibly blessed that we are apart of spreading His gospel here in Peru.
We have survived our first two weeks of language school. Literally survived, there have been two earthquakes last week. Please do not be too concerned about this, earthquakes are a common occurrence for this area and rarely concern the people. They actually have two words for an earthquake.
Temblors is a common tremor which most people don’t even stop what they are doing, Terremoto which are the real deal. They have not had a Terremoto since 2001 and roughly expect them to be about 60 years apart. Our host dad Pedro jokingly compared the frequency of the tremors to children. Whenever the children are silent that is when you worry. Whenever there are no tremors for a long time then you have a reason for concern. After the earthquake in 2001, the city has rebuilt with earthquake bracing in mind and the buildings and houses are much stronger now.
The school here is called ABC Español and they have been training missionaries in the Spanish language for nearly thirty years. The school sets you up with a host family who mostly speaks Spanish and will help and correct you throughout the day. We are incredibly immersed and have learned a lot even in the two weeks of being here.

We are pretty much settled into our host home. Where we are staying, our family cooks most of our meals for us and we are free to go out to eat if we want. They showed us which bus to ride to school as well as a great walking route that we prefer when the buses are too full. Things are going very well we are reacclimatizing to the altitude (7661 ft.) after leaving Colorado and being on the east coast for so long and learning our way around the city (Pop. 920,047).
Please continue to pray for us as we get used to our surroundings, and our new home. Pray for our health I (Jaime) came to Peru with a cold that has continued to linger but not affecting everyday life too much. Pray for our stomachs we expect to have a run in with our old friend “stomach bug” but that is part of acclimating in my opinion. Most of all pray that we can learn the language well so we can be good stewards of the Gospel and communicate Gods great love to all we come in contact with.
Some of you may be thinking are they going to update us every single week? No, we will not, we will soon move our updates to about every month. We simply wanted to let you know that we are here in Arequipa safe and that things are going great before we get to busy with school. Please feel free to email, social media (Facebook, Instagram), Facetime, Apple call and text or WhatsApp us. We are fortunate to be missionaries in a day and age where technology is such an incredible blessing to stay connected. We have received new SIM cards for Peru, meaning that our numbers are in the process of changing while we are in Peru. Our new numbers are listed below. In order to communicate with Heather and me, you will need to download WhatsApp. This app is free and allows you to text, voice message, video chat, and send pics and videos. We love to hear how you all are doing! Please keep us updated on ways we can be keeping each one of you in our prayers.
